Colorado can be found in the central west of the United States. Colorado ‘s neighbor to the north is Wyoming, to the east are the states of Nebraska and Kansas. The state of Oklahoma is on the southeastern state border.

The US state of Colorado

About 600,000 of the approximately 5 million inhabitants of Colorado live directly in the capital Denver. Surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, among other things, people in Colorado live at an average altitude of over 2,000 meters, higher than anywhere else in the United States of America. See Colorado counties list.

Three of the largest rivers in the USA, the Colorado River, the Arkansas River and the Rio-Grande, testify to the water power in Colorado, and there are more than 2000 small lakes in the mountainous area.

The blue in the Colorado flag represents the sky, and the white represents the snow-capped Rocky Mountains. The red C contains a gold disc, meant to commemorate the region’s Spanish heritage. The gold in the middle means that large quantities of the valuable raw material have been found in Colorado’s gold mines.

English in Colorado

The official language of Colorado is English, but in the southern parts of the state, many residents speak Spanish. Drawn by the mountain state’s wide prairies, fresh rivers, and enchanted mountains, many Latinos settled in Colorado and found a new, often better, world. A home, also open to immigrants, and with the proverbially unlimited possibilities that the USA has to offer.

Climate and weather

Although Colorado is quite high, the summers in the holiday country are often quite hot with temperatures that can sometimes rise above 30 degrees. At night it cools down to about 10 degrees.

Due to the low humidity, it does not get as oppressively humid as it often happens in Florida with its subtropical climate in summer. In winter, which runs from October to April, it often snows wonderful powder snow, and the temperatures can sometimes drop to -15/20 degrees.

Actually, Colorado and not Florida is the Sunshine State of the USA. With an average of 300 days of sunshine a year, even Miami can pack up. Durango and UNESCO World Heritage Site “Mesa Verde”

In southwest Colorado you will find the former mining town, which comes in the Victorian style. From Durango you can hike or jeep into the mountains of San Juan, visit the UTE Indian Reservation, visit the National Forest, or take a local steam train ride through the area. Also go from here to

A cluster of more than 4,400 ancient Pueblo Indian structures, built from the 6th to the 12th centuries, can be seen on the Mesa Verde Plateau in southwestern Colorado at an elevation of more than 8,000 feet. There are also impressive stone cliff structures to explore, some with more than 100 rooms.

Rafting and trekking from Buenavista

As the Spanish name of the town of 2,000 inhabitants suggests, you have a wonderful view of the valley of the Arkansas River, at an altitude of 2,400 meters. If you rent a lodge in Buenavista, you can start exciting rafting tours from there, as well as start wonderful trekking tours. Through the mountains named after the universities, Hardvard, Princeton and Yale, all over 4,300 meters high.

Rocky Mountains National Park

The tree-rich region is criss-crossed by firs and yellow pines, birches, poplars, alders, birches and willows, higher up then conifers, at altitudes from 3500 meters it goes over into mountain ranges covered with grass and lichens, it is too high for trees here.

Over 200 species of birds can be found in the protected area, swallows, woodpeckers, ravens, thrushes, black starlings, dippers, various birds of prey and certainly many species that are not found or only very rarely found in Europe.
