In the west, the Mississippi River forms the boundary with northwestern Iowa and southwestern Missouri. The Ohio River in the southeast separates Illinois from Kentucky. The state borders Indiana to the east and Wisconsin to the north. In the northeast, Illinois shares a border with Michigan in the middle of Lake Michigan. The highest point in the state is Charles Mound (376 m), the lowest point at 85 m is the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio.
