Art Institute of Chicago (Chicago, USA) – expositions, opening hours, address, phone numbers, official website.

Before you go on a tour of the Art Institute of Chicago, check the availability of space on your camera’s memory card! A visit to the museum promises to be very rich, and the number of photographs – a record high. Already on the way to the massive staircase leading to the museum, tourists begin to frantically click the shutters of their cameras: they are greeted by two huge bronze lions, created in 1894 by the American sculptor Edward L. Kemeys. Emerald lions guard the neoclassical beaux-arts building, built for the World’s Columbian Exposition with a view to organizing an art collection after the event closes. In fact, the Academy of Design, organized in 1879, moved here, which received the name of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1893 and exhibited the collected masterpieces.  See citypopulationreview for state facts, symbols and history of Virginia.

The art collection of the Art Institute of Chicago impresses with the number of masterpieces of European impressionism.

After the construction of the “Modern Wing” in 2009, the Institute of Arts acquired additional halls, which housed collections of European painting and sculpture of the 20th and 21st centuries, examples of masterpieces of architecture and design, photography and contemporary art. As a result of the reconstruction, an internal garden was also created, on the terrace with open-air sculptures you can cool off and enjoy the views of the neighboring Millennium Park.

Even if you do not see the point in contemplating framed rectangles painted and hung along the walls, you should pay attention to other exhibitions of the Institute of Arts. For example, to the exhibition “Arms and Armor”, representing military ammunition of several centuries, to artefacts of arts and crafts, to the famous collection of photographs, or to an exotic exhibition originally from Asia, illustrating five thousand years of art development in China, India, Southwest Asia, in the Near and Middle East.
