Statue of Liberty: The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to the United States of America and was originally intended to be completed in 1876 to commemorate the centenary of the American Declaration of Independence, but was not dedicated until 10 years later, on October 28, 1886. The gift was intended to serve as a reminder of the two nations’ collaboration in the American and French Revolutions. The location chosen was Bedloe’s Island, an island in New York Harbor, which was renamed Liberty Island by President Eisenhower on August 3, 1956. From here, tourists arriving by ship, immigrants and returning Americans are greeted by the statue. Check act-test-centers for 4-year colleges and universities in New York.
